Coffee isn’t just a delicious drink – it can also be used in your beauty routine. Coffee contains antioxidants and caffeine that help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Some skin types may even have a coffee scrub to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells. If you love to make your own beauty treatments, then you’ll love learning how to make a DIY coffee body scrub. Discover why it works, how to make it, and how often to use body scrub, right here.

Why use coffee on your skin

Why use coffee on your skin

Why use coffee on your skin? Why not? There are so many reasons why you might want to use coffee as a body scrub. It’s inexpensive. You can buy a large bottle of it at the grocery store. It’s easy to use. And it can be quite effective.

Coffee is a rich source of caffeine and is therefore a stimulant. It helps to boost your energy level and get you going. It is also known to stimulate your metabolism and burn fat. It’s great for your skin. Coffee beans contain an oil that contains antioxidants that help protect your skin. And finally, coffee can help remove dead cells from your skin, leaving it looking smoother and brighter.

There are lots of different ways to enjoy coffee, but these traditionally involve drinking it, not scrubbing your skin with it! However, coffee grounds have a texture like sand that makes them the perfect exfoliator.

Just like with standard body scrubs, coffee grounds gently buff away dirt and dead skin cells. This helps to leave you with smooth skin that can absorb the nutrients from moisturizers more easily. It also helps to increase circulation, bringing more oxygen to your cells and giving you that glowing radiance rather than dull, flaky skin.

The coffee itself has benefits when used in a scrub too, thanks to its caffeine content. When caffeine is applied to the skin in this way, it can help reduce cellulite reduction, according to a study. Another study also found that the application of coffee grounds can help protect your skin from photoaging, which causes fine lines and wrinkles, and is caused by UV rays.

How to make a coffee grounds body scrub

The ingredients list for DIY coffee body scrub is short, with just three things in equal measure. Of course, coffee is top of the list, but there’s a bit of extra info that will help you get the most from your scrub. Go for fine grounds, particularly if you have sensitive skin, as these will be gentler than coarse grounds. Use fresh grounds too, rather than dry, if you can.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup ground coffee
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted coconut oil (or almond oil)

You can also add other flavors if you want to change the scent, like a teaspoon of vanilla extract or a teaspoon of ground cinnamon – cinnamon has the added benefit of having antibacterial properties, too.

Method:

  1. Mix the coffee and sugar together.
  2. Add the oil slowly, stopping when you reach the desired consistency.
  3. Any additional ingredients, like vanilla extract or cinnamon, and mix well to combine all of the ingredients together.

It really is that simple! It’s best to use it straight away or keep it in the fridge until you’re ready to use it. Gently massage it over your skin (avoiding the delicate area around your eyes). Let it work its magic for a few minutes, and then rinse thoroughly. The oil can cause slippiness on surfaces, so be careful.

How often to use body scrub

Whether you’re using a homemade coffee body scrub or a shop-bought one, it’s important not to use it too often. Exfoliating is a great add-on to your regular skincare regime, but it’s not something you should do daily.

Whether you’re using a homemade coffee body scrub or a shop-bought one, it’s important not to use it too often. If you use a store-bought body scrub too often, it will start to irritate your skin. Also, if you use a store-bought one and don’t moisturize after using it, it could dry out your skin. Instead, you should moisturize after using it. And if you use a homemade body scrub and you’re planning on using it again, make sure to put it in a separate container than your normal body lotion so that you don’t accidentally use both products at the same time.

Using it once a week when you start is a good idea, as your skin will get used to it, and then you can work up to using it more regularly – up to three times a week if that suits your skin. If you have acne-prone or sensitive skin, then double-check with your dermatologist first.

Now you have another way to enjoy coffee!
